WHY IT Issues

Automation was a “key aim” for eHealth NSW to enable fast infrastructure scaling in reaction to COVID-19. It lifted its speed of deployment “from a 6-week normal [period] down to one working day.”

“We leveraged infrastructure as code so we could automate the deployment and administration of 90% of our applications in scope,” explained Cloud Refresh programme supervisor Daniel Hansen.

For about fifty percent of their applications, autoscale was also implemented to relieve management overhead, scrapping the want for an operator to continually keep track of a system’s efficiency and decide on introducing or getting rid of assets.

“Seller computer software was also used for automation. We leveraged relational databases services and micro-segmentation working with Azure Community Protection Teams and cloud-native load balancers across all the applications,” Hansen extra.

THE Much larger CONTEXT

The improvement of eHealth NSW’s cloud architecture is section of its ongoing Significant Infrastructure Refresh Method which aims to modernise legacy systems to guidance necessary health care products and services and just take gain of new cloud capabilities, these kinds of as AI, device mastering, and data analytics.

The Cloud Refresh programme, which started in 2019, will run right until June 2025.

ON THE Record

“This wasn’t a cloud migration carry and shift,” said Farhoud Salimi, executive director of eHealth NSW Company Supply, about their cloud infrastructure enhancement.

“It was a transformation where by we designed new mental home for these apps to do the job on the cloud. We not only reworked the apps but modified our way of functioning. We worked carefully with our app sellers and cloud associates to co-design and style and rebuild our essential medical applications right after we upskilled and restructured our persons into cross-useful DevOps groups.”
