Why Should I Choose Dental Implants?

Posted on

Our dentists at St John’s Wood offer dental implants as a way to help improve your smile, these can be a good option if you are looking for something more permanent. The dental implants replace the root of the tooth with a strong foundation for your new teeth to be placed on. If you didn’t want a permanent option, we also provide removable teeth to be attached to these new roots. Whether you have one tooth missing or multiple, dental implants could be for you.

Benefits of dental implants

The first benefit of these implants is that once our dental hygienists fit your new teeth, they will look just like your natural teeth. The implant is fixed into your jaw bone meaning that no one would be able to tell the difference between your natural teeth and the prosthetic ones.

As well as looking like your natural teeth, they also act like them. Your false teeth will have a very good level of stability, which means you can worry less about eating certain foods, and this has been very beneficial to our patients.

Due to these implants being permanent, you will not have to change them on a regular basis meaning lower costs for your new smile. The main focus after your implants would just be to maintain your oral hygiene to prevent any future problems. With the right dental hygiene routine, your implants can last a lifetime!

When you lose teeth, this brings loss of bone mass, which can increase the chances of more problems in the future. When you replace these missing teeth with implants, it encourages the bone to grow, and will actually grow around your implants in the gum to improve stability.

The dental implant process

After our dentists have a couple of consultation appointments with you, we will begin the process. In the first appointment, we will insert the implant post into the jawbone. We then close this up with sutures and you will return to us 10 days later to allow our dentists to examine the surgical site. After this, we will leave it to heal for several months to allow for bone to grow around the post so it is all firmly connected.

After these months are over, the implant will then be reassessed to check if it is fully ready and fused to the jawbone. If all goes well, then another type of post is added into the implant, this extends into the gum line and an impression will be taken. This allows us to create your custom bridge, crown or denture.

The final stage involves your customised tooth/teeth to be screwed or cemented permanently to the previous post that was added to the implant. If you are having a denture, a removable option can be made for you if you choose.

As well as maintaining your usual oral hygiene routine as you would with normal teeth, it is important to also have some re-examination appointments to allow us to make … Read More..

Get the ‘Fox Eye’ Look at a Skin Clinic in London

Posted on

2020 with all its troubles and goings-on still managed to bring a new beauty trend to the masses in the form of the ‘fox eye’ look. The popular faces of supermodels on social media who seem to have started the trend resulted in an explosion of make-up tutorials on how to get the look, but at a skin clinic in London there is an option to get the fox eye semi-permanently, without needing to learn the make-up skills of a professional artist, allowing people to mean it when they say, “I woke up like this.”

What is the fox eye trend

Simply put, the fox eye look is an upturned eye and brow which also creates the illusion of a longer looking and higher cheekbone at the same time. This more slanted appearance of the eye area is said to be ‘foxy’ in nature and has become highly desirable for various women of all ethnicities.

The fox eye differs from a brow lift – which only lifts the brows to create a more youthful and less tired look – in so much as it changes the angle and shape of the eyes and brow. While many women on social media use their finger to pull the eye in place to get a good fox eye photo, many are unaware of the simple way this look can be achieved through non-invasive techniques.

The fox eye trend with thread lifting

Many of the models that have made this a popular trend for the year have got this look through thread lifting, which is a simple and non-surgical procedure designed to lift the skin and facial contours with minimal downtime. This is a state-of-the-art suspension suture that pulls the eye and brow into a new position, to create the foxy look so many are trying to recreate with make-up.

This brand of thread lifting is an FDA approved procedure that can last 18 months to 2 years which makes it perfect for this trend, as you may decide later on that you want to go back to your natural look. The fact that this is only a semi-permanent solution is appealing to many who may otherwise be afraid of going under the knife for an outcome they can’t go back on. Also, the anti-ageing benefits of a thread lift are another promising factor of the procedure. After the threads are inserted, the body responds by sending a surge of collagen to the area in the following months which helps support the growth factors that influence the condition of one’s skin in a positive way. In addition to healing the ‘wound’, collagen enhances the plumpness of skin, making it appear more youthful and fresh. These processes of healing are ongoing and the downtime of this treatment is far less than that of traditional surgery, with only some redness and swelling directly after the procedure, most patients can continue with their lives as normal, with some even going back to work in the … Read More..

Looking to Restore Your Smile Through a Dentist in Sydney CBD?

The solution is out there

Most people do not understand the daily struggles of those who live with one or more missing teeth. The reason for this, beyond the obvious, is that the majority of people take their teeth for granted and do not appreciate the impact that they have on their daily lives. Those who do not have a full set of teeth often find the most basic of tasks to be a challenge, such as eating simple foods or speaking clearly. Thankfully though, there is now a solution for those who are missing teeth. By speaking to a dentist, patients now have the opportunity to completely turn their lives around – both dentally and socially, and restore their smile through dental implants.

Why are dental implants necessary?

Many of those who are living with a missing tooth – or teeth – are not completely aware of just how detrimental an impact having a space in their jaw can have, in the long run. One of the most impacting effects of an untreated missing tooth is the loss of bone structure around a patient’s jaw and face. This is caused by the lack of stimulation in the bone tissue that surrounds the gap within their jaw. If the bone is left unstimulated for a prolonged period, then eventually the patient’s body redistributes the bone tissue elsewhere. The results of this generally alter the entire facial structure of the patient drastically – usually in such a way that they appear for older than they actually are. Another detrimental effect that having a space in someone’s jaw can produce is the loss of clearly enunciated speech. This can have a lasting impact on the confidence of a patient, and cause them to become far more insular and self-conscious. However, nowadays there are treatments such as dental implants which can fully restore a patient’s smile on a structural basis, and completely revitalise both the way they look, and feel.

What exactly are dental implants?

Dental implants, in their essence, are replacement teeth which are used to bridge gaps inside a patient’s mouth. Implants have evolved from an idea which dates back thousands of years, although it is only recently that modern science and engineering have attained the level of success that is now enjoyed by many patients. Whilst procedures such as dental crowns or bridges act in a way which simply fills in a space where the patient is missing teeth by sitting on their gums, dental implants address the issue at its core.

How do they operate?

Modern dental implants operate by the construction and installation of a false tooth root – that is made out of titanium-alloy. This titanium-alloy root (or socket) is embedded deeply inside the patient’s jaw structure. Because of titanium’s unique ability to fuse itself within human bone tissue, after a brief period of time, the bone and the implant become merged as one. This means that a replica tooth can then be fixed into … Read More..

Invisible Braces the Easy Way

Posted on

It is estimated that nearly half of all children need braces and as many as 75% would benefit from the treatment to improve the shape of their face and make life a little easier. For those who don’t receive the treatment that they need, this can lead to further complications as they get older, which can be significantly detrimental to their confidence as adults.

Teeth will not naturally straighten, even if gaps are made with the removal of teeth because of injury or decay as people age. In fact, it is likely that they will cross or twist further, making their smiles even less attractive as they get older. Studies that look at the chances of scoring that job position in this difficult market have suggested that individuals with straight teeth are viewed as happier individuals who are more healthy and smarter.

So if there is anything a person can do to increase their chances of landing a job, ensuring that they are looking their healthiest and happiest by straightening their teeth is just one option they can look into.

However, it’s not only about job success. Having straight teeth also impacts an individual’s self-esteem, which in turn can allow them to be more confident in their social and romantic ventures as well.

This is not to mention the health benefits that having straighter teeth can provide. When teeth are not cramped or crossed, there is less likelihood for food debris and bacteria to remain in hard-to-reach places. Plaque and tartar build-up is often in places where teeth are closely packed together and can be difficult even for a professional to remove this residue over time.

So lets talk solutions

Invisalign in Luton is an effective, fast, and extremely discreet method to straighten teeth that is targeted to both teenagers and adults. It is unique in the way that it is a removable device, giving a sense of freedom to individuals where they can eat the foods they enjoy and remove their device for short periods for important occasions.

However, because this invisible solution is made of a clear plastic, even when worn, people do not need to know that a patient is undergoing a teeth straightening treatment.

Dentists know that the journey to straight teeth can be a daunting one and that many adults have put off correcting the alignment of their teeth for many years in potential fear of implications that wearing a device for a couple of years may have.

But now, with this cost-effective and innovative treatment plan, teeth can be straightened in as little as a few months, with an average procedure time of around a year for most patients. By discussing with a dentist whether they are suitable for this treatment plan and having a scan to look at their teeth and watch the transformation happen before their eyes, patients can get excited for a future that is full of confident, beautiful, and healthy-looking and feeling smiles of their own.… Read More..

Reshaping conceptions

It has never been easier to have a full set of bright, healthy teeth than it is today. Throughout the course of human history, it has never been easier for anyone to achieve a healthy smile. In the past, it was only the rich and prosperous who could afford to have healthy teeth or dentures – however nowadays treatments are more affordable than they have ever been. This affordability, coupled with the increased focus that people are paying to their outward appearances and oral health, has led to more and more people looking into all that trusted dental practices such as Sheen Dental could be doing to help their smiles.

Cosmetic dentistry solutions

More than ever before people are increasingly seeking out further information about cosmetic dentistry solutions which can help boost their inner confidence, self-esteem, and appearance. Treatment of this nature is designed to specifically combat one or more superficial concerns that patients commonly have about their teeth. One of the most widely requested treatments of this sort is cosmetic dental tooth whitening. Many people often dislike the shade of their enamel, and there are certain factors that can increase the likelihood of a patient’s teeth becoming stained, yellow, greyish in colour, or marked.

Lifestyle choices such as smoking or chewing tobacco products, or consuming an excess of staining fluids such as red wine, or black teas and coffees can lead to a person’s enamel becoming duller in colour or having visible stains. The enamel is the furthest out layer of a person’s tooth, and is actually made of the strongest naturally occurring material in our bodies. However, whilst it may be strong, our enamel is prone to becoming duller in color as we age, and it is difficult to naturally reverse this – regardless of how frequently or effectively we maintain our oral health. Thankfully though, through cosmetic tooth whitening, patients can have their enamel visibly brighter and leave the practice the same day with a gleaming white smile.

In-practice whitening

For the most effective and quickest results, many people opt for in-practice whitening which is carried out by a professional and done from within the dentist’s chair. The process of this kind of whitening involves the creation of a uniquely made retainer for each patient which fits them perfectly. Into this retainer, the cosmetic whitening specialist places a small amount of a safe hydrogen-peroxide bleaching agent. The retainer is then placed directly onto the patient’s teeth, and the bleaching agent acts almost immediately and begins to visibly whiten the patient’s teeth.

In as short a timescale as just an hour, patients can leave their dental practice with a visibly whiter and more confident smile. This may explain why this procedure has gained such popularity with young professionals and adults who want to look their best in preparation for an interview or social occasion. There are also home-whitening kits which can be bought from a reputable dentist. These operate in a similar method and involve … Read More..
